HOLSWORTHY Lions fun day saw 480 disabled people from across the South West have a great time – and enjoy almost 1,000 free hot dogs and burgers between them.

The annual party with a disco inside the Memorial Hall and fair ground rides, a coconut shy, plate smashing and other fun activities outside, is a favourite for those with physical and mental disabilities and their carers.

Lions President Brian Withall said: "We have been running it for 20 years and they come from all over Devon and Cornwall and as far north as Weston-Super-Mare, and some come every year.

"It's a really good day, the fairground rides are left in place by Rowlands after the carnival and everything is free, the rides, the disco, the food, this year we got through a record 500 burgers, and more than 400 hot dogs and loads of candy floss."
